1/6/2024 Kick Recap - "Dead Man Walking"

Lang calls Martin to see how many PNY cards they have, they have 3. After getting some food and being frustrated with the snow, Lang picks up Martin and and Larry to do some errand work. Edgar calls to chat, they agree to meet later. Lang gets a few money runs done, they discuss kickups returning this week, and the differences in coffee. They run into CJ and Liya back at the Forge, and prep for a Cash Exchange heist. Liya joins them in the car, they pick up supplies from a drone at the dam and then look for a hostage. They run into Cole from South Cypress and make fun of Martin for not knowing him, eventually finding a hostage at the food court.

Lang and Larry banter with the hostage while Martin hacks, the cops never arrive and they loot with ease. Edgar calls to say he's ready to meet, Larry trips out a little, so Liya mentions the Shaitan. Lang goes to meet Edgar, but he's delayed, so he makes small talk with Andi who stops by the Forge to tell them about the 'Hydra Olympics'. Edgar spam pings Lang to Paleto, so he races up to finally meet. Lang finds Edgar and his friend in a barn, running into them with the car.

Edgar tells Lang that the Faceless just met them to talk, but Lang plays the fool by not respecting the Faceless. Jay arrives and scares Lang, but Lang demands to know who the leak was. Edgar asks how CJ knows about the marked cards, Lang isn't sure. Lang tells them that Skipper is working for the Faceless, and tries to spin that they confirmed they were both marked and as a result CJ needs to die. Edgar asks how the police know about everything going on, assuming that someone leaked to the police, too. Lang presses Edgar for his relationship with CJ, and then with Gigi, but Edgar says it's casual. Lang says that Gigi is working closely with the Faceless too, but Edgar thinks he's bluffing. Lang and Edgar argue about CJ and Gigi's involvement with the Faceless (unsure if this is true or Lang trying to bait Edgar). Edgar finally says that Skipper is the leak, but Lang 'doesn't believe him'.

Jay agrees with Lang that Edgar is dodging explaining his relationship with Gigi. Edgar says that Gigi isn't involved, Lang threatens him to stand on his word, Edgar offers to call Gigi, but Lang threatens to shoot him if he involves her further. Edgar explains how Gigi was involved, and how she was around Edgar when he met the Faceless the first time, but he is unsure how much she actually knows. The Faceless has issue with the police knowing about their plans, let alone their existence. Lang and Edgar claim neither of them or their connected people told the police about the book (it was Larry). Jay makes them circle back to who they suspect could be the leak and why. Edgar still thinks that there is a time machine in the FIB building, Lang disagrees. Lang wants to go speak to CJ and Skipper to figure out what's going on, he offers to include them in the interrogation later.

Lang gets pinged by the Faceless around the corner, he finds a book with a small map and a puzzled phrase. He quickly determines that the book is just a threat that all leaks will be eliminated. Lang meets with Saab outside of Cypress and tells him of his concerns, and asks Saab if he spoke to anyone about the talk they had in the tunnels. Saab says that he's kept everything secret and wouldn't share anything with anyone outside of Lang. Lang asks Saab if he's marked, Saab explains that Edgar and Jay showed him both the Faceless card and the FIB card, so he believes he's marked (he's not). Lang has him read the book, and he does it bluntly without trying to figure out the hidden message (really Saab?). Lang tells Saab if he can't figure it out, he's not worthy of being included going forward. Saab makes a pretty good attempt, but Lang takes the book back and reads it to him.

They return to Cypress to pick up Martin, he tries to bring CJ so Lang gets frustrated. Lang takes Martin around the corner to read the book as well. Lang explains that he made the mistake by telling everyone in the tunnels, and he thinks Edgar is unknowingly confirming all the Faceless suspicions about Lang being the leaker. Martin tries to talk Lang down from the seriousness of the matter, but Lang wants to interrogate Skipper and CJ in the basement.

They head over to the quarry to meet with Edgar, Lang discusses shortly that he's not interested in killing people for fun anymore, he'd rather CJ or Skipper plead ignorance to save their lives. Martin understands, but claims Lang has changed. Edgar calls to warn them that a police officer might be pulling in, but he drives away. Edgar arrives with Jay and Valentino, Martin and Saab greet them politely. Lang gives Edgar the book, but Edgar received it yesterday already. Lang tries to highlight that he showed Edgar as soon as he got it, but Edgar seemed to have forgotten.

Lang and Edgar argue about who the leak is, Edgar is frustrated that the police know the information, Jay makes a joke about Cypress being close with the PD. Lang suggests going through everyone's phones, but Edgar refuses to let anyone in his phone. Lang persists, but Edgar loops back to the original conversation. Lang and Edgar brag about Survivor, and they both compare their current situation to how they acted in the games. Jay wants to do a trust exercise, but Lang calls for a sidebar with Martin and Saab.

Lang knows that Larry ratted to the cops about the Faceless stuff, Martin agrees, Saab is in disbelief. Lang put together the chain of events correctly, confirming that everything leaked from him to CJ, Skipper, and Larry. Lang returns to call Edgar and Jay out for showing Saab the FIB card and the Faceless card, Jay explains that they knowingly did that together, but Edgar is confused. Lang tries to spin that Edgar and Jay could be the leaks, Edgar spins it back, so Lang asks to go through phones again. Lang wants to interrogate CJ and Skipper, but Edgar wants to be there, Lang isn't sure he can bring them to the basement. They hear someone driving by and leave to chase them down, the believe it was an officer. They return to the meeting spot in hopes that whoever was spying on them returns, but the Faceless attack helicopter appears and they flee in panic.

Lang returns to Cypress to pick up CJ and Skipper, Sophia passes by and mentions that her new car sucks. Liya pulls Lang and Martin aside to discuss everything she's heard, and how they have been warned about Gigi's involvement. Liya mentions that Sophia is very ride or die for Gigi and didn't like that they were talking about her. Lang reiterates that everything they spoke about should remain a secret, and his mistake was telling everyone. Liya takes accountability and agrees that she shouldn't have spoke about anything once they left the basement, but leaves them to handle the rest of the business.

Lang brings Martin, Saab, CJ, and Skipper to the basement. He pings Edgar, Jay, and Valentino and leads them to the basement, too. Edgar is distracted, absorbing the tunnel system and what he thinks of Lang. Lang asks CJ to step forward and explain herself, she seems conflicted about sharing more accidentally which might lead to her demise. Lang asks Edgar's group to step out of the room, and tells CJ that he plans on throwing Gigi under the bus using her details. He calls Edgar's group back in the room, and CJ says that Gigi leaked to her first. CJ swears that she doesn't know anything else about the Faceless, and only knows of it's name through twatter. Lang calls out Edgar for his relationship with Gigi, Edgar says that all he was given was a place to sleep, but nothing more. When the Faceless encountered him for the first time, it was within her presence, but nothing more.

Edgar thinks that this doesn't solve anything, and that McNulty was the one on the mountain. Edgar targets Skipper for his questions, and asks how he's involved. Skipper details that he met the Faceless hours after meeting Edgar at the court case. The Faceless told Skipper that Edgar was a bad man, and simply by meeting with him, got Skipper marked. Edgar questions what else Skipper talked about, Skipper said he was threatened to keep tabs on Edgar, or else they would kill CJ. Skipper stalls and wants a sidebar, so Lang quickly takes one to confirm, but brings Edgar back to hear that Skipper was told by the Faceless that Edgar is the leak.

Edgar asks if Skipper knows the extent, and Valentino asks how many times they've met. Skipper's only met with him 2 or 3 times, and believe his task was completed already. Edgar isn't sure this is the full truth, but Skipper assumes that things were over since he was told "that hell is coming". They ask what information Skipper relayed about Edgar, and all that he confirmed was that Edgar was marked, information he got from Gigi (he's lying). Edgar wants a sidebar, Lang tries to clarify that he doesn't want north and south drama over Gigi, but Jay thinks she should be shot.

Edgar asks why the Faceless would be messing with him about Skipper, but Lang argues that the Faceless is probably just a bored billionaire trying to play games. Jay and Valentino circle back to Gigi being the leak, Lang reminds Edgar that brushing off the information about Gigi makes him look more suspicious. Edgar says that he bumped into her randomly, and the meeting with the Faceless was a pure coincidence. After adventuring to the FIB building and trying to solve some of the riddles, Edgar showed her the Faceless marked card and she knew what it was. Edgar thought she was FIB because she knew what it was, but told Edgar to keep it secret. Lang is confused, but he tells them that they're going to leave and he's going to interrogate Skipper and CJ again to confirm the tasks that Skipper was given.

Lang walks Edgar and his group out, and instructs Martin to call up the rest of the northerners minus Tony (who's busy with racing stuff). Valentino swears his privacy about the tunnels, and asks Lang about how long it took him to make it, but Lang says that the history is older than his own life. Lang pulls Martin aside to confirm that Larry can't tell anyone that he's snitched about the Faceless, but Skipper and Bubbles might know that Larry has been spouting about them. Lang asks Martin his thoughts on the Gigi part, Martin thinks that Lang devised a story that puts Gigi in danger, while Martin agrees with killing some northerners, Lang argues that Gigi shouldn't involve herself in that. Lang finds it strange that Gigi is still involved in ways that neither of them expected.

They let in the rest of the northerners and head back into the basement. Lang presses Larry for talking shit about the Faceless, and then gives him the puzzle book to read. Lang gives Larry a moment to figure it out, Martin tells him to read it like Anime, and then Larry figures it out. Lang admits that he shouldn't have told anyone about it, but he did, and Larry shouldn't have told the cops, but he did. Lang is covering for everyone, and explains the story so far. He tells them about his concerns for Gigi and her involvement, and reminds them all to stop being stupid. Larry says he only told Brian Knight, and when he jokes about not being afraid of the Faceless, Lang presses him for having an ego in silly moments. Lang wants the north to stand together, regardless of how messy things get. Skipper tells them that he was the one who involved Saab when the Faceless asked about the nukes, to protect Lang from leaking that. Sophia asks if they are being heard right now, but Lang tells her that the basement is sound proof. Martin says that only God can hear them, but Lang says "even God can't hear them down here".

Tony calls to chat quickly before Lang heads to bed, Lang frees everyone from the tunnels and meets Tony outside the Forge. Tony wants to reopen the underground that he had back in the day, and wanted Lang's approval. Lang doesn't care, so Tony will start the progress with Nino to see if it will get more Racers in the scene. Martin pulls Lang aside to ask if he's a crow, since he's surprised he got back to Cypress so fast, but CJ told Martin that Lang's a crow. Lang says that CJ is crazy, and heads to bed.
