2/6/2025 Kick Recap - "The Only Side That Matters"

Larry finds Lang at the Forge and tells him he got his hands on fentanyl. Lang immediately warns him about the risk of addiction, but Larry insists he only wants to sell it. They remind each other about the funeral later today before Lang heads over to Tony’s repair shop.

Arush calls with a few updates—guns can no longer be bought from the dark web, so they’ll need to source parts instead. He also mentions new sewer entrances near Legion Square and that they’re working on the Ron Oil heist. Lang stirs the pot, blaming Harry and Luciano for South Cypress’ failures. Arush disagrees, saying Luciano does a great job but acknowledges that he already warned him about spending too much time with Andi doing private jobs. Arush is frustrated that people still seem wishy-washy about being with Cypress—he hasn’t even seen Gigi in weeks.

Arush confides in Lang about wanting to get rid of Capono for being weak, but admits there’s nothing actually wrong with him. They discuss their differences as leaders and how South Cypress has recruited over time, noting that most of Arush’s goons are still the same ones from years ago. Despite their back-and-forth, Arush is happy to work together on the Ron Oil heist and encourages Lang to consider it.

Lang asks Arush about Yaya getting to live, but Arush reminds him that before he left, Lang personally approved taking Yaya off the list. Lang doesn’t remember. Arush offers to take him out if it’d make Lang happy, but Lang folds and decides it’s fine. Their conversation spirals into discussing Ilya’s death, and Lang suddenly remembers to ask about Teddy’s suspicious texts. Arush isn’t sure why Teddy would be sending weird messages, but by the end of the conversation, Lang and Arush seem to be on better terms.

Lang meets CJ at the Nest to talk about her dreams. She says she was teleported around the city—once into the FIB building, then into the Rooster’s basement, where she was near the Mask and Sword. She claims she almost touched them but didn’t. Lang thinks she’s crazy and questions her decision-making. CJ insists she’s learning how to translate hex code, but Lang still isn’t convinced. They briefly discuss a new idea for the jailbreak, and Lang wants to check out the new sewer entrances Arush mentioned.

Lang searches Legion Park but doesn’t find anything, so he calls Arush to show him. Officer McNulty shows up first, introducing Lang to his new police dog, Bongo. Lang immediately dislikes him. When Arush arrives, he points out the new sewer grate at Legion and says there’s another near the food court.

While walking through the area, Lang runs into a DOC hitchhiking and ends up filling out a survey. The questions are surprisingly in-depth, but before he can finish, Tony and Gigi interrupt, complaining about how useless the surveys are. While waiting for their food, Tony and Gigi start rapping, and Lang banters with them before heading back to the Forge, where he runs into Larry again.

Larry struggles with the complexity of making fentanyl, so Lang offers him a potential solution—setting up a small lab inside the water tower, underneath the Nest. Larry is interested in figuring it out, while Lang heads to Paleto to check if it's been hit.

Back in Cypress, Lang meets up with Saab, Liya, and CJ to prepare for a Paleto run. They take Saab’s non-upgraded four-seater. While driving through an active scene, Lang accidentally runs over two cops but claims it was too dark to see them. They kidnap the survey guy as a hostage, and CJ calls Larry and Bubbles to join them.

Lang successfully hacks the Paleto vault but complains that his crew isn’t carrying their weight. CJ starts acting off, so she snorts a line of coke to calm down. While sorting through the loot, Lang finds a cargo card, and they debate whether to sell it for cash or trade it for more guns. They take the gold straight to the exchange, while Bubbles drops the hostage back in the city.

Once Lang realizes they made upwards of 300k, he’s annoyed they don’t hit Paleto more often. Declaring himself the best hacker in the city, he pushes to run it again soon. While bartering with 4Head about the cargo card’s worth, Lang disrespects him by using his government name. 4Head calls back later, offering a million for the card, but Lang wants to check with his people first. To kill time, he rolls dice with Saab and wins 50k.

Worried the card might expire soon, Lang calls Flippy to see if he wants it, but Flippy can’t make the deal. With no other options, Lang calls 4Head back and waits for the Besties to arrive at the Forge. Martin and the rest of the Northerners help Lang move the money inside, and Lang offers to buy some guns from the cargo once the deal is done. Before heading out, he calls Marlo to give Hades a heads-up.

The entire crew heads to the office near the quarry to check out the floppy disks. As soon as they arrive, Lang crashes into a police car parked outside, claiming the sandstorm blinded him. He continues speaking philosophically about life, unsettling CJ and Liya. He takes CJ’s floppy disk but can’t figure out the computer, so they leave empty-handed. On the way out, Lang randomly calls Beau ugly. Larry calls, and they agree to delay the funeral until tomorrow. Larry is too focused on the fentanyl operation and doesn’t want distractions. Lang drives CJ and Liya back into the city, continuing his deep thoughts about life.

While driving, Lang gets pulled over by Carmine and a few other officers. He immediately demands his ticket, frustrated that they’re wasting his time. The situation escalates, and Lang shoots down one of the officers. Liya and CJ jump out to help, but the rest of the cops take them down.

After getting back on their feet, Liya mentions that she had medical supplies from Sofia on her when she was arrested. Lang and CJ panic, knowing a raid is possible, and try to get sent to prison as fast as possible. Officer Ventura warns Lang that if it happens again, his purple cards will be taken.

From prison, Lang calls Saab and issues a code red on the warehouse, sending Saab into overdrive to move everything out. Meanwhile, Lang tries to work off his sentence quickly. He runs into Cassie, who’s arguing with a food truck worker over being overcharged. Lang banters with Warden Scotty before tracking down Liya to ask about the raid. Liya thinks the cadet who arrested her might have missed the equipment, meaning the raid might not even happen.

While talking, Lang learns that Liya is also from Toronto. He borrows a jail phone to check in with Saab, who confirms the Forge has been cleared out. Luciano calls through some scuff and offers help with the code red, but Lang doesn’t need it anymore. When DOC catches Lang on the phone, he runs around trying to avoid getting cuffed.

Cassie tells Lang about an upcoming DOC work release plan—Ursula can ping one of them, and they could ambush the guards for a jailbreak. Lang confirms that Cassie isn’t Canadian, and she reminds him of her loyalty to the North. They fake an argument to convince a guard they’re not friends, Lang gloats to Liya about it, then gets released.

Lang steals a Glendale from the parking lot and mocks Canadians to CJ as they drive back into town. They go through a list of CJ’s favorite and least favorite foods until she gets a text from Jacob, telling her to change Lang’s vault code. Lang laughs, bragging about Jacob being such a great spy that he was probably listening to their conversation earlier. Moments later, CJ gets another text from Jacob: the Glendale they just stole was his. The boys pull up to greet Lang at the Forge, he tells them he loves them, and then he heads to bed.
