3/31/2025 Kick Recap - "The Whirlwind Called Cypress"

Lang wakes up to his charges being posted, 40 years and 4 million dollars in fines. He studies his new prison tattoos: "penance" above his eye, a crow, and a cross on his cheek. He spends time sitting around as he waits for his bail hearing, numerous DOC guards and Lifers inform Lang of his visitors. Lang sits with the Lifers in the yard, overhearing their small talk. Eventually Lang get's some booze handed to him, and he asks that lifer what happened to Cassie. The lifer doesn't have any idea what happened to Cassie, in relation to her break out. Lang isn't sure they are aware about Cassie yet, but grows suspicious of them texting each other.

The guards bring Lang to city hall for his bail hearing. The hearing begins with Opal suggesting that he is no threat to anyone other than Larry and Renato, which should result in no contact. Lang requests full punishment for the crimes he committed, the judge heads into deliberation. Lang will be placed on house arrest, the location to be decided by Beric. Lang is returned to prison, Cypress salutes him on the way out.

Lang returns to prison where Matt wants to speak with him in the cells. Lang follows, a prisoner walks by and hands Lang a book with a note in it. Lang stands before Matt and tells him to do it. Matt pulls out a shotgun and aims at Lang, but laughs as he realizes the bullets have expired. Matt and the lifers leave the cell, the mystery note warns Lang that people want to kill him. The DOC guards enter, claiming that Lang's house arrest is ready. Lang walks out with the guards, but Matt returns and shoots him once, leaving Lang bleeding out on the ground. Opal and the other officers help get Lang medical attention.

Lang goes through surgery and then placed in the ICU. The officers allow visitors, so CJ arrives first. Lang doesn't want to speak to her, but the rest of the Cypress crew follows close behind. CJ asks for a moment alone, and pleads with Lang to shake off whatever emotional state he's trapped in. She needs him, she feels all alone. Clark enters, trying get Lang to speak. Lang refuses, acting blank and disappointed. Clark bolsters a tough attitude, but storms out with plans to kill the Lifers. Skipper and Liya arrive, wishing Lang well. Tony comes in to remind Lang that they have plans to help, and that he's always there for him. Harry and Luciano come in the room, to Lang's surprise Harry is sympathetic and warm. Lang reaches out to touch Harry, but is interrupted when Clark returns. Disgusted by all the sadness, Clark leaves again. Harry taunts Luciano to speak passionately for Lang, Luciano finds the words to remind Lang that he's there to support him no matter what. Gigi comes in next, telling Lang about her visit to his future house arrest building. Her note of importance was about finding Lang's old south side phone in her car after she left the house. She believes that there are suspicious relations to another organization, but isn't sure what to believe. Octo comes in last to say that Tony and him are cooking up a plan, he wishes Lang well before his doctor returns.

Lang is given a walking stick and assisted by police as they take him to the house arrest location. Lang notices Edgar outside, Delver greets them as the house owner to help assist the arrangement of keys. Beric tells Lang that Opal will be his parole officer, she will be available every moment Lang needs. Delver gives Lang a tour and tells him to pick a room. Lang sits on the bed, getting further instructions about how to request help and what the barriers of the arrangement are. The cops leave, Lang sits on the couch in the living room and waits for Edgar.

After some time, Edgar gives his parole officer a long list of supplies he needs for tomorrow's big sushi dinner. Once he leaves, Edgar takes a call from a suspicious person about something happening outside. He nudges Lang to check if he's still alive. Lang and Edgar chat about his injury, Edgar suggests Lang have a doctor appointed to stay with them at the house. Edgar shares that they're trying to give him the death penalty, but he has no memory of the crimes they claim he's committed. Lang asks Edgar if it feels like they're always running from the inevitable. Edgar counters with a motivational quote, noting that a man who runs doesn't confess. Edgar thinks Lang has an angle, or that he's making a play. Lang refuses, claiming that he's tired of 'this life'.

Edgar reviews the people Lang killed, relating his realization of Ilya finding his own crew earlier on. He doesn't believe that these people couldn't have mattered that much to Lang. Lang tells Edgar that every lesson he tries to teach, becomes a lesson of failure. Edgar thinks that Lang's lessons weren't about teaching the people, but about teaching someone else. Edgar thinks every decision was made so that Lang would end up locked up with Edgar in this moment. Edgar thinks this is fate.

Edgar asks Lang to request a doctor to stay with them, and that it is integral for the dinner tomorrow. Lang doesn't want to be involved in the mess. Lang wants to serve his time, give penance. Edgar stands up and paces the room in frustration. Next, he asks about Larry and why Lang shot him, but Lang offers up a quote; "he who passes the sentence should swing the sword". Edgar doesn't understand why Lang is acting so depressed, he believes Lang has been hexed. Lang and Edgar chat about their difference in opinions, who is more impactful to the world between wolves, sheep, and monsters.

Edgar tells Lang to get some rest, Lang peeks out the window before heading to bed.
