5/13/2025 Kick Recap - "Your Soul Is Ours"

CJ tells Lang that the Chicken Man chased them all night, even when she went to her apartment. She found a chicken figurine at the Forge, and then a book in her room at the Rooster's Rest. During this chaos, Liya texted, so at least she's alive. He checks on CJ's progress with her new mission, she notes that she's making more progress as herself than her disguised identity. Lang doesn't think she's doing a great job at working with Nu Epsilon, they argue about her leaving to help Saab during the "Phone Guy" event. Lang doesn't believe that CJ can prioritize things correctly yet. CJ points out that a masked man (black mask, white markings) was at the event, took pictures of the broken library case, and made Eliza very nervous. Lang had no idea that this was happening, but thinks that CJ was simply distracted. They are interrupted by Andi Jones twatting and Liya texting Lang from her new number. Lang tells CJ that there's another transport happening on friday, she's surprised that it's so soon.

Lang and CJ get food, Ursula cusses out Lang for snitching on him, he lies to dodge the embarrassment. They run into Bjorn exercising on the way out. At Cypress, Lang asks Skipper about the Chicken Man, he's on the phone with Andi. Lang heads to Blarney's to check in with Saab, Dante gifts Lang a rifle. Harry wants to raffle a car on a new slots style dice game. If someone rolls 3 7's they win the car, otherwise every roll is split 50/50 between him and Blarney's. Lang warns Saab about getting into business with Harry, but otherwise seems happy with the game. Lang tells Saab about the mission on friday, and asks about the Chicken Man. Saab distills it down to, Norman's deals but worse. If you can avoid the Chicken Man, the better.

Lang hobbles back to the Forge, running into Liya who is around today. She notices his new outfit and they check in about Saab's efforts. They leave to do an ammo crate, Edgar twats, so Lang calls to banter with him about being tapped in. Lang and Opal speak about what was leaked from his interrogation, but Opal makes clear that some of that information he admitted to was publicly available. They find the crate in Vinewood, hit it on schedule and open the parts on the Vinewood Hills. They group up again for a hot run, Tony joins them. Pred calls during the run and asks if Lang can come to his office for a chat. As they wrap up the run, Lang meets Carmine outside the detective office and is lead inside.

Lang and Pred make small talk before getting to the gritty details of the contract, Lang tells them what he wants investigated. Lang wants to find the person that robbed Blarney's 300k, and then whoever leaked information to Ursula. Lang provides details about the officers involved, Carmine and Pred express their feelings about these people. Pred will be able to provide all information they find, but they cannot prosecute on behalf of him. Pred jokes about Lang getting Pred fired previously, using it to showcase his time as an effective investigator.

Lang calls Osvaldo to check on his radio show, Carmine calls to get Lang's access to his records. Lang calls Edgar to check in, but he's in the middle of a job right now. Lang goes to the Liquid Library and plays a Lebron song (Man In The Mirror remix) on one of the TVs. After, Lang asks about the book that was stolen, showing Max a book he had already. Max thinks the one Lang has was previously rented by Skipper, but the one that was stolen was different. Max leads Lang to a statue of the Chicken Man, Lang gets a new tarot card reading.

The reading details: people challenging his authority, having someone close to him make tough choices, learn from his past, and being introspective when it comes to an overall life plan. He gets interrupted by a call from Clark warning that he's going dark soon, Lang offers to help if things go badly, but Clark refuses with hopes to build towards the longer con.

Lang continues the reading: things are wearing him down, but it's optimistic looking for his future. His attitude could improve, but built on a legacy that others can take care of. The people around him are devoted and loyal, and in turn he is ride or die for them. He should appreciate people and the moments that he encounters, regardless of how normal they might seem. Lang appreciates the reading and pays her for it.

Saab tells Lang that Dante lost a bunch of money gambling, Lang sits with him in Blarney's as he explains how it happened. Dante played against someone who rolled almost 10 times in a row, Lang likes the game but understands that things like that can happen. Dante offers to cover what they lost, but Lang is fine with paying it out of the Blarney's account. CJ (a different one) comes to get his 500k, Lang remembers to take back the 50k house cut. Saab comes by, but Lang is annoyed with him and sends him to do laps. Carmine and Pred come by to gamble, Lang yells at Saab to help them. Lang warns Skipper to be careful (referring to the Chicken Man), and then speaks with CJ about the stolen book and the Chicken Man. CJ isn't afraid of him, but noted that he speaks in strange sections that sound like pre-recorded clips. Lang returns to roll dice with Carmine, Pred does it on behalf of him. Lang wins 200k and leaves Saab to handle the payment.

He takes CJ to the Refinery to melt the Chicken Man statue they found. Lang can't throw the figure, they laugh about how it seems indestructible. They want to curse someone with the figure, Lang and CJ argue about doing reckless things every day. Lang leaves the figure at the cash register of the noodle stall, they thank Lang for the gift. Lang and CJ go to the Cave, but Lang hears suspicious sounds and checks out the garage. In the piles of crates he notices an old picture of the Guild, they continue into the Cave and check the the USB. After finding nothing new, Saab calls to warn about gang related drama - Lang leaves the retaliation in his hands.

They return to the Rest to chat, Lang shows CJ that he left the books displayed on the tables for her. Lang asks for an update on her current test, Nu Epsilon is pretty closed off, but her disguise is starkly different than her usual personality. Lang gives her a few lessons to help with her progress, CJ is happy to continue and spend more time under cover. Lang warns that she won't like the next lesson, and goes to bed.
